RYERSON UNIVERSITY'S
The Modern Literature and Culture Research Center (MLC) is dedicated to researching the cultural literary production of the modern era as well as preserving and advancing Canadian women’s heritage. The centre is also a space of creative exploration, hosting poetry readings, performance art, and exhibitions.
The goal of the new MLC website was to create an exciting online space that visually captured the research focuses of the and creative community of the center.
We faced the challenge of creating infrastructure to house a vast archive of articles, online exhibits, media appearances, papers, profiles and other research resources. To accomplish this we designed and built a custom CMS from the ground up to meet the unique needs of the MLC.
With such a content rich site, it was vital to make navigation smooth and simple. We built an animated mega menu that allows for a higher level of navigation while blending seamlessly into the site.
We wanted the site to feel alive and active. Bringing in bits of artwork boosted the aesthetic quality and pushed the research themes of the MLC. Adding subtle animations to this artwork brought that aesthetic to life.
Because the site had so much content of various types, we didn’t want to compromise the organization by using an out-of-the-box CMS. So we built our own to meet the unique needs of the MLC.
